Ukrainian teachers participating in a trauma-informed learning activity

Teaching and Learning in Difficult Times

I was the lead trainer and curriculum creators of this three-day training course focused on trauma-informed pedagogy for teachers of English from Ukraine.

In response to the invasion of Ukraine and the widecale displacement and interruption to education which followed, I worked with the British Council to create and deliver a course consisting of three modules:

  • Understanding the impact of trauma and its effects in the classroom

  • Dealing with very challenging behaviour

  • Making the classroom a safe space.

More than 1,000 teachers from Ukraine participated in the programme, which I helped to deliver in Poland, Romania and Lithuania. I also upskilled 16 Ukrainian ‘master trainers’ to support the further rollout and impact of the programme.

A short video introduction to the course can be seen below.
